Plant Identification for Beginners
Introduction to Plant Identification. Small group (maximum 15 participants) with a focus on a hands on experience. Course materials provided.
Ever wanted to identify a tree or plant and don't know where to start? This workshop will cover all the necessary observations to be made in identifying plants, particularly when out in the field. This includes not only flower types and arrangement, bark, branches and stems but also leaf differences. You will learn how to identify simple and compound leaves, leaf shapes and venation, stipules and stipule scars, surface projections, leaf glands, oil dots and domatia.
The Plant Identification workshop will run for 2 hours and will be facilitated by local expert, Joan Heavey who is well known for her knowledge and plant identification prowess. Joan is co-author of "Weeds of the Sunshine Coast" now in its 2nd edition and a section on orchids in the 4th edition of "Noosa's Native Plants".
Cost includes a laminated biological field guide and printed notes. Please bring a hand-lens if you have one, pen and notebook. Bookings can be made by using this link
