Noosa Council kerbside collection 2019
Noosa Council does not offer a bulky items kerbside collection service. While this service may appear convenient, it comes at a significant cost and contributes to substantial amounts of recyclable materials (such as wood, metal, cardboard, e-waste, etc.) ending up in landfill due to the complexities and expenses involved in sorting. Bulk kerbside collection results in unsightly streets and poses health and safety risks. Of particular concern is the improper disposal of hazardous materials like asbestos, batteries, and chemicals as well as the risk of litter and micro-litter finding its way into our ocean and river systems.
Council is committed to assisting residents in managing their bulky waste responsibly.
If your large household item is no longer working or suitable for someone else to use, get in touch with a local waste collection supplier or recycle at one of the three council resource recovery facilities.
Council has established a large household item waste collection directory with the intent of helping residents to find local suppliers offering waste collection services for unwanted items that are difficult to move.
Many items are free to recycle at the three Council resource recovery facilities located at:
The following items can be dropped off for free:
Large household items in good condition can be sold or donated to the following charity and re-use shops:
Council proudly supports the Garage Sale Trail program in November each year. The next garage sale trail is set for 9-10 & 16-17 November 2024.
Garage Sale Trail generates local economic activity and provides residents with a fun day of clearing out unwanted items rather than sending them to landfill.
In 2023, Noosa residents generated more than $17,000 extending the life of over 20,394 kilograms of pre-loved items, 37% of which would otherwise have gone to landfill.
The Garage Sale Trail is a national program, for more information visit the Garage Sale Trail website.
Many local op shops provide a collection service for larger household items if they are in good condition and can be sold at their shop.
Visit the op shop websites below for more information regarding collection services of large reusable items.
The Reviva recycling shop, located at the Noosa landfill and resource recovery centre, is a reuse shop selling quality second hand goods including building supplies, furniture, books, tools, household appliances, sporting goods and much more.
In 2020/21 the Reviva shop diverted 235 tonnes from landfill.
Reuseable items can be donated to Reviva at the drop off lane before the weighbridge. Click here for a detailed list of donatable items.
