Over the past several years, Council has been committed to reducing its own emissions. Since 2016 we have been implementing Zero Emissions Organisational Strategy aimed at achieving zero net emissions by 2026.
In this time, we’ve successfully achieved the following:
- Installed over 750 kW of solar PV across Council owned and operated buildings and facilities.
- Improved energy efficiency in air conditioning systems for Council facilities.
- Replaced hundreds of lights to energy efficient LEDs.
- Enhanced waste management and gas extraction efficiency at the Noosa landfill site.
- Provided grants to community groups for solar and energy efficiency projects.
- Offered a free solar advice hotline and educational programs for households and businesses through the Australian Energy Foundation.
- Partnered with ZEN Inc on a range of initiatives, including solar for business, the electric vehicle expo and Race to Zero school program.
