Beach volleyball takes centre stage at Sunshine Beach
Beach volleyball is set to spike in Noosa this summer with the newly established Noosa Volleyball Club serving up its first ever round of holiday clinics at Sunshine Beach.
The clinics, which start on Tuesday 14th January and are open to the public, are a collaboration between the club, Council, Ivory Palms Resort and five-time National Beach Volleyball Champion, Brett Richardson.
A temporary beach volleyball court will be set up on Sunshine Beach to host the clinics which run daily until the 17th of January.
Mr Richardson said the clinics are for kids and adults of all skill levels.
“The program is for everyone really, whether you’ve played before, or have never picked up a volleyball before, it’s suitable for everyone and it will be a lot of fun.”
The sessions for 10-18 year-olds will run each morning between 8am and 9.30am; and adult sessions will run between 4pm and 5.30pm at the cost of $15 per person.
“We’ll have people of all ages and skill coming along to get the sand between their toes and have a go,” Mr Richardson said.
Council’s Community Development Officer for Sport and Recreation Amanda Tie said clinics such as this contribute towards the healthy lifestyle Noosa is known for.
“To be able to offer beach volleyball clinics on beautiful Sunshine Beach alongside a five-time national champion like Brett is an incredible opportunity for locals.
“It’s such a great example of how local clubs, businesses and Council can work together to promote sport and physical activity in the region.”
Mr Richardson said people should register online beforehand or simply arrive at the court on the day, which will be set up just north of the Sunshine Beach Surf Club.
“I’m so thrilled to be bringing beach volleyball to Sunshine Beach this summer.
“We’ll have members of the newly formed Noosa Volleyball Club here and we encourage all locals to come down and see what it’s all about.”
