'Come-n-Try Arvo' to give kids a taste of sport
Council has teamed up with local clubs to give children a taste of the sports on offer in the Shire.
Primary school children can try cricket, soccer, tennis, softball, AFL, rugby league, golf and OzTag at the Noosa Come ‘n’ Try Sports Arvo on February 20.
Council’s Sports Development Officer Amanda Tie said past Come ‘n’ Try afternoons had been popular among kids and parents who were undecided about which sport to get involved in.
“Children are grouped by age and they participate in a series of hands-on introductory sessions run by local and state sporting organisations. It means kids get to try a wide range of sports all in one afternoon,” Ms Tie said.
Local club representatives will be on hand to speak with parents about each sport and what their clubs provide.
“Many national sporting organisations nowadays focus not just on competition, but ensuring kids are gaining fitness, staying active and having fun while playing sport. These Come ‘n’ Try Arvos are a great opportunity for parents to find out directly from each club what’s happening locally,” Ms Tie said.
“In addition to the Come ‘n’ Try sport sessions, Noosa Disc Golf, Noosa Outrigger and Noosa Fitkids coaches will be on hand with demonstrations and to talk to parents and children about new programs and activities for kids.
“It’s sure to be a great afternoon and a fantastic opportunity to experiment with sports, in a fun environment,” Ms Tie said.
The Come ‘n’ Try Sports Arvo will run from 3.30pm to 5.30pm on Wednesday, February 20 at the softball fields, Noosa District Sports Complex, Butler St, Tewantin.
