Council welcomes solar students on epic environmental adventure
A group of university students from Victoria will arrive in Noosa on Monday as part of the ‘SolarTuk Expedition’.
Leaving Melbourne on the 24th of November in a solar-powered tuk-tuk, the RMIT students are currently travelling at just 50 kilometres an hour up the east coast of Australia – all in the name of reducing global transport emissions.
Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie will join local hosts Zero Emissions Noosa (ZEN) to welcome the tuk-tuk on its arrival in to town and join a cavalcade of electric bikes down Hastings Street.
“The SolarTuk Expedition is impressive on a range of levels and we’re very happy to welcome the team behind it to Noosa,” Mr Wilkie said.
“The message the expedition is spreading – and the conversations it is inspiring – is very much in line with aims of the Noosa Transport Strategy 2017 – 2027.
“Council is committed to embracing innovative transport solutions and keeping a watching brief on smart technology and other transport research that will help us to address our local transports goals and needs.
“One way we’re doing this is actively working to the Noosa Council Zero Emissions Plan, and working closely with community based organisations, such as ZEN, that are helping us to achieve a zero net emissions future.”
