State Government agrees to retrospective development application for Munna Point boatshed

Noosa Council has been formally notified that the State Government has withdrawn its proposed Ministerial Infrastructure Designation relating to the Munna Point boatshed at Noosaville.

The Department of Housing and Public Works will now submit a development application to the Council seeking retrospective approval for the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol shed on Russell Street.

Works on the new boatshed were halted in 2017 after formal objection by Council outlining that the development required a planning application to Council in accordance with the Noosa Planning Scheme.

Council’s Director of Environment and Sustainable Development, Kim Rawlings, said the new negotiation process outlined by the Government is a welcome decision.

“Council would like to thank the State Government for listening to local concerns and for committing to working with the Council and the community, ultimately ensuring the development is assessed in accordance with Noosa’s Planning Scheme,” Ms Rawlings said.

“The State has promised to meet with Council at a date to be set to begin the process of making the town planning application. We understand that this will be advertised so all members of the community can have their say on the proposal.”

Council has also acknowledged the efforts of local Member for Noosa, Sandy Bolton MP, for her advocacy efforts to the Government on behalf of both Council and the broader rate-payer base.

Ms Bolton said it was excellent news to receive before Christmas.

“I thank Minister Cameron Dick and the Departments involved for their understanding and willingness to respond, and act, on our concerns,” Ms Bolton said.

“I have no doubt residents will appreciate the ongoing efforts by the State Government to deliver effective water based services from this site, and as demonstrated by this news, are doing so with consideration of the outcomes sought by our community, which is wonderful. ”

No timeframe has been set as yet for community feedback on the State Government development application.
