Disaster Dashboard switched on

Council has launched an online Disaster Dashboard.

It’s a new, one-stop shop for reliable emergency information when disaster strikes.

The website - disaster.noosa.qld.gov.au - provides emergency contacts, weather radars, warnings and flood maps, plus information about power outages, road closures and evacuation centres.

Local Disaster Management Group Chair, Mayor Tony Wellington, said the days of looking at multiple websites were over.

“The Dashboard brings together useful information from all of the agencies involved in disaster management to help residents make quick but informed decisions during cyclones, floods, fires and other disasters,” the Mayor said.

The Dashboard also provides easy access to the social media feeds of not only Council but agencies such as Queensland Police, Main Roads, SES and utilities such as Unitywater.

“All of this information helps to create a clearer picture of what is happening locally.”

Local Disaster Coordinator, Carl Billingham, welcomed funding from the State Government’s ‘Get Ready’ Queensland initiative to develop the Dashboard.

Council created the tool in conjunction with software developer Guardian QIT Plus.

In addition to visiting disaster.noosa.qld.gov.au, residents can access the Disaster Dashboard by clicking the link on the homepage of Council’s website.

“The new Dashboard will help Noosa prepare for weather disaster events and ultimately help to create a more resilient community.  People should bookmark the link to their web browser for a rainy day!” Mr Billingham said.
