The funding to expand the Cooroy Sports Complex will enable the Cooroy Gymnastics Club to grow.

The funding will deliver a 600sqm extension of Cooroy Sports Complex to provide an indoor all-weather multi-purpose training area and extended gymnastics facility.

The all-weather area will accommodate a range of sports including soccer, cricket and rugby league, with the expanded gymnastics area to enable Cooroy Gymnastics Club to grow.

The funding will also provide for the design and construction of a shared pathway between the shire border at Peregian Beach, Lorikeet Drive and Jabiru Street, connecting public parks, the natural environment, beach access points and residential areas.

“We welcome the opportunity to work with the Federal and Queensland governments to boost Cooroy’s sporting facilities through the SEQ Liveability Fund,” Mayor Frank Wilkie said.

“Improving coastal pathways and new cycling and walking infrastructure in Peregian Beach is another important project for our Shire.”

The two Noosa projects are among 22 included in the first tranche of projects funded under the SEQ Liveability Fund.

The SEQ Liveability Fund is one of 29 commitments being delivered under the $1.8 billion SEQ City Deal, a partnership between the Australian and Queensland governments and Council of Mayors (SEQ) to generate long-lasting benefits for the fast-growing region.

“This demonstrates the tangible benefit to our community of being a part of the SEQ Council of Mayors and how it is creating opportunities for the health and wellbeing of our community,” Cr Wilkie said.

“This funding is a great example of what can happen when all three levels of government work together.

“We remain committed to delivering projects that improve lifestyle and liveability for our residents, workers and those who visit our shire.

Overall, 11 local governments will share in $200 million in Australian and Queensland Government funding.

Federal Minister for Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Local Government Catherine King said the Australian Government was committed to improving cities and regions to provide a high quality of life.

“It’s critical that all three levels of government work together to support this population growth and create liveable, creative, sustainable and healthy communities,” she said.

Queensland Minister for State Development and Infrastructure Grace Grace said the Queensland Government was investing in SEQ to ensure it remains a great place to live as the region grows.

Council of Mayors (SEQ) Chair, Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said better parks, more public art, improved community facilities and new walking and cycling paths help create more to see and do in South East Queensland’s growing communities.

Funding for a second tranche of projects currently undergoing detailed assessment is expected to be announced in the coming months.
