A 195-unit housing development, which the State Government declared ahead of the election caretaker mode, does not comply with Noosa’s planning scheme.

“We’re pleased to receive the LNP’s commitment that the development along with the 40-unit development in Tewantin would need to comply with Noosa’s planning scheme and be delivered in collaboration with the community housing sector,” Cr Wilkie said.

“This commitment is a positive sign for the future liveability of our community and could save Noosa from over-sized and inappropriate development,” he said.

Noosa Council sought commitments from the two major political parties regarding the State Facilitated Development declaration, which was made on the eve of the State Government going into Caretaker mode.

“The ALP was not able to ensure the Noosa Planning Scheme would be respected, while the LNP has,” Cr Wilkie said.

“The sites are suitable for housing and we accept the need for affordable housing but it must be done in a way that respects our town plan, meets the expectations of the community and the character of the shire,” he said..
