TC Alfred Update
Noosa Council has activated its Local Disaster Coordination Centre as preparations continue for Tropical Cyclone Alfred, which is now a category 2 system moving south-eastwards, further away from the Queensland coast.
The State Emergency Service (SES) has opened public pick-up points to access free sand and bags for filling.
HOLIDAY PARKS
Council owned holiday parks at Boreen Point, Noosa River and Noosa North Shore are closed, with campers and caravanners across the shire urged to make alternative accommodation arrangements or leave now.
Those leaving the area should check road conditions and plan a suitable route before leaving.
If staying, make sure to ask accommodation staff where to shelter if the cyclone hits.
ACCESS TO SANDBAGS
The State Emergency Service (SES) has opened public pick-up points to access free sand and bags for filling. Please note sand and sandbags will be continually replenished over the next few days. Please be patient and remember to bring your own shovel.. Locations are:
- *NEW* Noosaville: Pirate Park, Gympie Tce
- McKinnon Drive Sports complex, Tewantin
- Cooroy SES Shed, 26 Emerald Street, Cooroy
- 26 Exhibition Street, Pomona
- Behind the Cooran Store in Pioneer Park, King Street, Cooran
- Beside the Fire Shed, 50 Queen Street, Cooran
- Rural Fire Shed, Main Street, Kin Kin.
- Boreen Point SES Shed, Hector Street, Boreen Point.
- Cootharaba Rural Fire Service, Davis Road, Cootharaba
All locations are open 24 hours, except the sports complex on McKinnon Drive which will close at 10.30pm and reopen at 5.30am.
People living in low-lying areas should consider filling some sandbags to be prepared.
COUNCIL FACILITIES
Besides the holiday parks, other Council facilities, including waste facilities, continue to operate as normal at this stage.
