Peregian Digital Hub open for business

Council’s plan to broaden Noosa’s digital footprint took a leap forward today with the official opening of the $3M Peregian Digital Hub.

More than 15 technology businesses have moved into the 750sqm facility, which features co-working space, offices for anchor tenants, meeting rooms and high-speed fibre internet.

Mayor Tony Wellington said the Hub – a curated space for established and emerging technology enterprises – was an important part of Council’s plan to diversify the local economy by growing Noosa’s digital sector.

“Council is delighted to bring so many new and established digital businesses together to collaborate, develop new ideas, mentor young talent and ultimately grow our tech sector. In the long run, this is very much about broadening our local economy,” he said. “The impacts of these exciting businesses will radiate far beyond Noosa.”

Among the tech businesses to call the Hub home are Atmail, which provides email software to international telco clients, and Commtract, an online talent marketplace for PR professionals.

“As anchor tenants, these successful businesses will no doubt share their skills and experience with the Hub’s newer start-up businesses,” the Mayor said. “It’s that sort of cross-fertilisation of ideas that is at the heart of this project.”

Digital Hub Director Chris Boden said internship and schools programs were also up and running.

“Our Creative in Residence program is helping inspire young people to pursue careers in the digital space. In August, we had a 3D animator working with visiting school groups, teachers and other members of the public. This month we'll be showcasing electronic music production.”

The Mayor thanked the State Government for its contribution of more than $1 million to the Digital Hub.

“The State Government’s involvement was critical to the project’s success. Their support is a resounding endorsement of the Digital Hub’s potential,” he said.

Minister for Local Government Stirling Hinchliffe gave the facility his stamp of approval at today’s launch.

“I congratulate Noosa Shire Council on the work it has done to establish the Peregian Digital Hub. The Queensland Government is pleased to have helped the Council deliver this facility, which will nurture ideas, support collaboration, and provide training opportunities,” he said.

The Peregian Digital Hub is part of the Rufous Street Precinct, developed and designed in consultation with the local community.
