Monthly morning tea event to support new mums

Noosa Leisure Centre will launch a monthly morning tea event in August to help new mums overcome the isolation too-often felt during the early years of parenting.

The first monthly Mummas’ Morning Tea is on August 27.

The Leisure Centre developed the concept in response to calls from mothers looking for a way to meet other like-minded women for a chat, to swap advice and offer support.

Founder of Council’s popular Active Mums Noosa program, Amanda Tie, said women who were new to the area often had no local family support nor a way to get to know other mums.

“Many local women who have become mums for the first time are looking to meet other mums to just talk mum stuff and to find out what’s on around town for them and their kids to do,” Ms Tie said.

She said the Active Mums Facebook group continues to receive weekly requests from mums looking for opportunities to connect with other women.

The morning tea is open to any mum with children under 12 years old. Not only will mums have the opportunity to mingle with other mums, but local businesses and organisations that provide activities for children and/or mums will be on hand to talk about their services.

“It will be a great way to find out what’s on around the area for kids and mums, as well as a way to meet new friends over coffee and cake,” Ms Tie said.

The first Mummas’ Morning Tea will be held on August 27, from 9.30am – 11am, at Noosa Leisure Centre, then the last Monday of every month.

Mums are welcome to bring their children or make use of the on-site creche (bookings essential). Reserve a place for the morning tea by visiting the Leisure Centre's website.

Businesses or organisations that provide services or activities that may be of interest to local mums are welcome to contact the Leisure Centre to get involved. To register interest, send an email.
