Projects for the hinterland in Council budget

$5.4 million dollars will target hinterland projects in the Noosa Council's 2018/19 capital works budget.

"There are big and small projects aimed at our glorious hinterland," Mayor Tony Wellington said.

"Of the larger works, $1.25 million has been set aside for Cooroy’s iconic new playground.

"The other big-ticket items are a couple of bridges that need renewing. $2.5 million will go towards the demolition and replacement of both the Old Noosa Rd bridge at Cooran and the Mary River Rd bridge in Cooroy. These are essential works for vehicle safety.

“We’ll also be spending $410,000 to rebuild sections of Black Mountain Road, following from both crash history and road condition assessments. And a similar sum will be spent across the hinterland on gravel road re-sheeting, with a particular focus on school bus routes. Ridgewood will see the second stage of works designed to upgrade the dangerous intersection of Donnellys Road with Cooroy Belli Creek Rd.

"Meanwhile, Maple Street at Cooroy will get a new raised pedestrian crossing, which the Cooroy Chamber of Commerce have been requesting to improve safety.

"The budget also includes $155,000 to complete Cooran’s Pioneer Park upgrade, designed in consultation with the local community.

“Pomona will see works to replace the basketball court at Pomona’s Stan Topper Park, plus a new pathway and barbecue at Joe Bazzo Park,” the Mayor said.

"There are also some improvements to be made to our hinterland halls and facilities. Pomona Community House will get new airconditioning, Tinbeerwah Hall will enjoy new flooring, and Pomona Kindergarten will have its roof replaced."
