New and improved tip shop now open
Noosa’s new and improved tip shop, Reviva, opened for business today, with Mayor Tony Wellington on hand to cut the ribbon.
“Resource Recovery Australia’s Noosa team is looking forward to rolling out a wide range of new and improved services at the shop,” the Mayor said.
“It’s jam-packed with useful household items for sale, plus the team will soon deliver workshops to teach residents how to repair and upcycle old household items.
“Shop manager Lucy Yule and her team have produced some novel planter boxes using parts of old refrigerators. Such innovative ideas are a taste of things to come.”
The revamped tip shop is an important part of Council’s plan to achieve a 55% reduction in waste to landfill by 2024
New operator, Resource Recovery Australia (RRA) – a not-for-profit specialist waste and recycling group – aims to increase recovery of items otherwise headed for Noosa’s landfill, by around five tonne a month.
Mattress recycling will also improve, with RRA recycling almost 100% of the components.
“The steel and foam components will be recycled and RRA is working in partnership with the University of NSW to create a new product from the textile component,” RRA Regional Manager, Matthew Curtis says.
Noosa will also benefit from RRA’s work-for-the-dole and other employment programs.
"We are delighted with the prospect of working closely with the Noosa community to divert as much waste as possible from ending up in landfill, while also creating employment opportunities for those facing barriers to gaining lasting employment,” Mr Curtis said.
Ms Yule said her team was looking forward to welcoming local residents to the shop, located at Council’s Eumundi-Noosa Road Resource Recovery Centre.
“The Reviva tip shop is open from 8:30am to 4:00pm 7 days a week. It’s definitely worth a visit,” the Mayor said.
