Kerbside bulk-rubbish collection to start July 16
Segregate your waste and know your collection date. That’s the message from Council ahead of the upcoming kerbside bulk-rubbish collection.
Council’s Waste Manager Wayne Schafer says the collection will take place over eight weeks, starting July 16 with the coastal suburbs of Peregian Beach, Castaways Beach and Marcus Beach.
Residents will soon receive an information flyer in the mail listing their suburb’s collection date.
In addition to knowing their collection date, residents will need to segregate their rubbish at the kerb, Mr Schafer said.
“Metal items for recycling need to be in one pile, with a second pile for repairable household items and a third pile for all other rubbish,” Mr Schafer said.
“A different truck will collect each of the three types of items. So, to avoid their rubbish being missed, residents must make sure they segregate it.”
Residents should place their sorted items at the kerb on the Sunday afternoon before their suburb’s collection week begins, no earlier.
Collection contractors will not accept garden waste or items such as batteries, tyres, gas bottles, nor objects that can’t be lifted by two people.
“The flyer that each house will receive provides the full list of items that won’t be accepted. Alternatively, check Council’s website,” Mr Schafer said.
Council will again provide a paid mattress collection service in conjunction with the kerbside bulk-rubbish collection. The cost is $30. Payment must be made prior to collection day.
“To book the mattress collection service, residents need to phone Cleanaway on 07 3708 9812 before 4.30pm on the Wednesday prior to their collection week,” Mr Schafer said.
Contractors will collect a maximum of three cubic metres of rubbish per house, and six cubic metres per unit complex.
For further information, consult the brochure, which will be delivered to homes prior to collection day, or visit Council’s website for more information.
