More than $380,000 for community groups in latest Council grant round

Council has approved more than $380,000 in community grants to help support a wide range of community groups.

The latest Community Grants project round supports more than 20 recipients across four categories – programs, events, equipment and infrastructure.

Three-year funding agreements will also help those groups with hall and sport fields to maintain.

Council’s Community Development Manager Alison Hamblin said funding for the delivery of a community skate program was among the exciting projects given a boost.

“This project follows on from a previous successful local learn–to-skate program. It will help the top skateboarders from each division reach the state titles,” Ms Hamblin said.

A grant for Tewantin Tennis Club will help it roll out LED lighting across four courts thereby reducing its carbon emissions.

Social, cultural, sporting and environmental initiatives are all winners in this round.

Cr Ingrid Jackson said, “Council is pleased to be able to fund a wide range of quality initiatives with this latest round of Community Grants.”

Cr Jackson noted that, "The Noosa River Biopassage Remediation Field Day will receive a grant to provide a bus tour and site visits for key stakeholders.”

"Other grant recipients include Kin Kin Community Group for Stage 2 of the Kin Kin Arboretum, while Tewantin Noosa Pony Club will gain funds to build a new toilet block.

"This round also supports Sunshine Coast Reconciliation Group’s shared history seminar in Cooran plus Pomona and District Community House to help it upgrade its office and shed.

“Council has also approved a $15,000-per-annum Community Alliance Grant for Noosa Community Training Centre, to help them continue to provide training programs for unemployed young people over the next three years,” Cr Jackson said.

In addition to the project grants, Council will put in place 23 new three-year funding agreements to help sports and community groups cover their field and community hall maintenance costs.

“These agreements were due for renewal this year and every group that was eligible for renewed funding in this grant category has been approved with a slight increase in their funding to cover CPI cost increases,” Cr Jackson said.
