Noosa Council has announced $24,947 for local arts projects in the latest round of Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants.

Eight local arts projects are set to receive funding, including Noosa Orchestra’s project to bring internationally renowned pianist, Simon Tedeschi, to town for the Noosa alive! festival. He’ll perform with the orchestra and local emerging performers.

Pomona Arts Inc and Noosa Arts Theatre will both receive funding to support professional lighting workshops for their volunteers, students and young people.

“So keep an eye out for improved lighting design skills at their future performances,” said Council’s RADF Chairman Cr Jess Glasgow.

Projects like these satisfy the RADF criteria by employing arts professionals, involving the community and providing skills and opportunities to grow Noosa’s arts sector.

Other projects to receive funds include a Noosa Arts and Crafts Association quilting workshop and Noosa Junction Association’s Boring Walls and Lanes project.

This RADF round will also fund Cooroy’s Ceramics Centre for Excellence to host workshops with international artist, Tim Christensen. Also set to receive funding are musician Jimmy Davis and multimedia artist Dr Amanda Cole. The grants will enable Mr Davis to record new music, while Dr Cole will create new works for an exhibition.

“We acknowledge the work all applicants put into developing their project ideas and completing their RADF applications,” Cr Glasgow said.

“It is not possible to fund every application in every round, but we are pleased to support a wide range of projects that will benefit our arts sector and provide fabulous events and opportunities for local residents."

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Noosa Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.

The Queensland Government is contributing $2.08 million to the 2017-18 RADF partnership across the state.

“Since 2014 the RADF program has provided $167,832 to assist more than 46 creative projects in Noosa,” Cr Glasgow said.
