Nominations open for 3D design course

Are you a builder, a creator, a tinkerer or an inventor who is often found out in the shed or workshop making new things?  If so, Noosa Library Service’s Intensive 3D Design and Printing Course may be for you.

The four day program will introduce participants to the concepts needed to design, model and manufacture simple objects from idea to print. 

“The design stage is crucial in 3D printing as 3D printers create an object layer by layer, or slice by slice. Understanding this process can help save the designer time and money,” says Literacy and Learning Coordinator Tracey King.

The course will explore some of the applications for 3D printing technology, including robotics, rapid prototyping, life sciences, construction and more.

Computer scientist and embedded systems engineer with over 20 years’ experience in the industry, Malte von Ruden, will lead the course.

“Malte von Ruden is a successful technology company co-founder and consultant to various international consumer electronics firms. Suffice to say, his experience and know-how will prove invaluable to all those who take part in the course,” Ms King said.

“This 3D program is open to adults with a strong interest in inventing or who are new to this type of technology, but would benefit from gaining skills in this area, such as builders, inventers and craftspeople. 

“Those with engineering talents and a desire to take those skills into the digital space would also find the course worthwhile.”

Ms King believes this free, exclusive course will attract a high level of interest from local creatives, with nominations already starting to come in. 

“Eight participants will be selected to participate in this program so get your nomination in now so you don’t miss out.”
