'Imaginate' will excite the senses

Imaginate comes to Noosa Regional Gallery in June.

Gallery Director Michael Brennan says the art exhibition and festival for children promises to both educate youngsters and excite their senses through a fusion of artistic guidance, creative play and hands-on projects.

“It will be an interactive and engaging experience,” he says. “There will be custom Lego creations on display as well as play-tables where kids can make their own brick block masterpieces.

“The Creation Station will be an amazing space where imaginations are encouraged to run wild. Here kids can draw, mould, stick, fold, tape, colour and create. Young artists can design their own puppets and marionettes, and produce an entire shadow show on the silhouette wall.”

The Buzz Space will offer kids the chance to help construct a robotic sculpture and interact with a collection of gadgets.

“Kids can explore the fascinating world of illustration with an exhibition by award-winning author and illustrator Peter Carnavas, and in a real treat Peter Carnavas and fellow artist and illustrator Emma Middleton will hold a series of interactive storytelling sessions.”

These are just some of the free activities on offer during the exhibition, which opens on June 22 and runs until July 15.

“We expect the wide range of entertainment and workshops to be a huge hit with children of all ages. Entry is free,” Mr Brennan said.

Other highlights include papier-mâché and clay sculpture workshops, watercolour classes, guided meditations, urban street art-inspired workshops and many others.

“We’re transforming the Gallery into a space of sensory excitement with educational and interactive displays. This is an exhibition parents as much as children will find rewarding and interesting.”
