Bring your broken items and worn out teddies to Gallery's Christmas Market and Repair Fair

Do you have a much-loved object that lies broken in a cupboard? Have you always wanted to get it repaired but didn’t know where to take it or didn’t have time?

In celebration of the upcoming Object Therapy exhibition, Noosa Regional Gallery is inviting local residents to bring along broken items to its Christmas Market & Repair Fair.

“A team of repairers will be on hand to offer advice and help repair or transform broken objects. They’ll also be selling handcrafted gifts for Christmas,” Gallery Coordinator Nicole Maggs said.

Object Therapy is an exhibition and project by Hotel Hotel exploring creative transformation and notions of value and repair.

“Noted Australian and international designers and artists have repaired and in some cases re-imagined 29 broken objects, sourced from the Canberra community,” Ms Maggs said.

“By transforming these loved but broken objects through creative repair, Object Therapy showcases innovative design solutions while exploring the attachments we form with objects.

“The project encourages us to rethink our habits of material consumption and rethink the role and creative possibilities of repair in society.”

Alongside the Repair Fair the Gallery is launching its inaugural Artisan Christmas Market featuring over 30 stalls offering local and handmade items as well as craft displays, workshops, carol singing and a performance from Linsey Pollak.

“We’re inviting children to bring along their broken teddies and have them repaired in Santa’s toy repair shop, plus the kids will enjoy a special visit from Father Christmas,” Ms Maggs said.

She said the Gallery was thrilled to launch the inaugural Artisan Christmas Market.

“We have a wonderful variety of stallholders and participants this year and we want to invite everyone to celebrate our local artistic community and encourage people to shop local this festive season.”

Object Therapy is a project by Hotel Hotel, developed in partnership with UNSW Art & Design and ANU School of Art and Design, presented by Australian Design Centre with assistance from the Australian Government's Visions of Australia Program.
