Aged care facility appeal withdrawn

An appeal of Council’s decision to refuse an aged care facility for a site on Eenie Creek Road has been withdrawn.

Council’s Development Assessment Manager Kerri Coyle said Council welcomed the applicant’s decision to discontinue the Planning and Environment Court appeal and consider other Noosa sites.

Council refused the application for the 90-bed aged care facility in June concerned the site, adjacent national park land, posed too great a bushfire risk to be used for aged care.

“Council recognises that Noosa needs more aged care beds, but Council resolved that the risk of placing a large number of elderly and frail people on a site that may face fires from the national park, or need to be evacuated quickly, was too great,” Ms Coyle said.

Ms Coyle said Council welcomed the opportunity to discuss other sites with the applicant.
