Buses on the move in Noosaville

Back

Minor adjustments will be made to Noosaville’s route 628 (Noosa Parklands to Noosa Junction via Noosa Civic) and several school bus services following the construction of a new bus turnaround facility.

The bus turnaround facility on Lake Weyba Drive is a result of community feedback on wanting buses removed from Creek Road, Wylah Street and Swan Street.

Head of TransLink Matthew Longland said the 628 and school buses: 5822, 5824, 5828, 5829 and 5840 would be rerouted along Lake Weyba Drive before returning north to Weyba Road using the bus turnaround facility from Monday 4 September.

Mr Longland said local residents had their say on local bus services and TransLink had listened.

“In August 2016, we invited local residents and passengers to give their feedback on whether the 628 alignment and school services should be rerouted,” Mr Longland said.

“The survey was an initiative of TransLink with the overwhelming majority favouring the bus route alignment.”

Noosa Shire Council’s Director of Planning & Infrastructure Carl Billingham said the project was an example of two levels of government working together to deliver significant improvements to local infrastructure.”

“In addition to collaborating with TransLink to ensure the turnaround was constructed on Lake Weyba Drive, Council has solely funded significant stormwater works prior to the construction of the bus turnaround.

“These works have included the reconstruction of over 130 metres of stormwater pipes and pits.”

The now completed $200,000 bus turnaround was the result of a 50:50 financial collaboration between Noosa Council and TransLink.

The existing Swan Street bus stop will be closed under these changes and alternative stops between 150 and 400 metres away are available along Lake Weyba Drive.
