Voting opens in Council's ArtCycle Art Prize

Finalists in Council’s ArtCycle Art Prize have been named and now it’s up to the community to decide the winner.

Council’s Gallery Coordinator Nicole Maggs said voting would open September 9, along with an exhibition of the finalists’ entries at Noosa Regional Gallery.

“To view the ArtCycle finalists, and vote for the winner, visit the Gallery or log on to the website,” Ms Maggs said.

Inspired by Council’s Toward Zero Waste campaign, the ArtCycle Art Prize challenges entrants to get artistic with rubbish or old unwanted items.

Council’s Waste Education Officer Emma Menzies said: “While it’s a fun challenge, ArtCycle highlights the importance of reusing, repurposing and recycling to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the high calibre of entries in the ArtCycle Art Prize. It’s incredible what all of the artists have been able to achieve with common waste items and items that were collected from local charity shops on the Sunshine Coast. Many of these items would have ended up in landfill,” she said.

“Now it’s up to the community to decide the winners.”

Also on display will be the finalists from the Youth ArtCycle Prize.

Voting in the ArtCycle Art Prize closes October 2.

All winners will be announced Friday, October 6. Cash prizes are available for first, second and third placegetters.

Cr Joe Jurisevic will open the Noosa Regional Gallery exhibition at 2pm, Saturday, 9 September. All are welcome to the free event.

The exhibition will run until October 15. Visit the Gallery's website from September 9, for more information.
