Calling sport and recreation providers for new Council program
The call has gone out for sport and other recreation providers keen to partner with Council to deliver next year’s 12-week Get Out Get Active Program for young women.
Project Officer Edwina Griffin said Council was looking to include a range of activities in the new program, which aims to provide young women aged 18 to 24 with access to low-cost activities to help them stay active.
Ms Griffin said Council was looking for not-for-profit and commercial groups to provide the following activities:
- Yoga.
- Stand-up paddle boarding.
- Gym (weights and cardio).
- Boxing.
- Group fitness (outdoor).
- Pilates.
- Kayaking.
- Martial arts / self-defence.
Council compiled the list of activities based on a survey of young women interested in taking part in the 12-week program, which will begin in February next year.
“This is a great opportunity for local sport and recreation businesses and not-for-profit groups to partner with us to make the Get Out Get Active Program as successful as our innovative Active Mums Program,” Ms Griffin said.
“Data shows that only 39% of Queensland women in the 18-24 age group are physically active. With no Noosa-based physical activity programs specifically tailored to young women, the Get Out Get Active Program will fill an important gap,” she said.
"There are physical and mental benefits for women by increasing their level of regular physical activity and the camaraderie that develops between participants over the twelve-week period. We look forward to hearing from activity providers keen to be part of this program."
The Queensland Government provided a $10,040 grant to the Noosa Get Out Get Active Program to get women and girls active for life. Council will contribute an additional $4950 to the program.
Interested providers should email Council’s Community Development team for more information and an expression-of-interest form. Forms must be returned by September 15.
