Filtered water trial a hit
Council is unveiling trial bottle-filling stations to keep residents and visitors hydrated as well as reduce plastic waste.
The new council-designed stations provide free filtered water at the push of a button.
One of the water stations is already up and running near the start of the Park Road boardwalk and more will be rolled out shortly.
Two more stations will soon be brought online on Gympie Terrace – one by the Lions Park stage and another near the tennis courts.
Building and Plumbing Manager Allan Hazell said the initiative would encourage residents and visitors to re-use plastic bottles or bring their own bottles. Each station can fill two bottles at a time, with a press of the button dispensing 600ml of water.
Council staff designed the filtered water stations in-house.
Mr Hazell said that so far the response to the first water stations had been positive. “The locations chosen are high traffic areas and the station already operating at the Park Road boardwalk has proved to be a hit. As well as supporting Council’s Towards Zero Waste initiative, this move also adds to Council’s commitment with Boomerang Alliance to see Noosa become plastic-free, ” he said.
