Robots, slime and chemical reactions in Science Week program

Noosa Library Service is getting into the Science Week spirit with a program of activities to encourage kids’ interest in the topic.

Creating slime and experimenting with robotics are just some of the activities on offer from August 14 to 20.

“The program of interactive events will introduce young people to the world of coding and robotics, microscopes and natural history, sensory science and chemical reactions,” says Literacy and Learning Coordinator Tracey King.

The program will run during Science Week starting with a Coding and Robotics showcase on Monday, August 14 at Noosaville Library from 2pm.

“We’ll also host Stories for Young Scientists – a science-themed storytelling session – followed by a hands-on activity to explore chemical reactions,” Ms King said.

“A fun with microscopes session at the Mobile Library is set to be popular too.”

Ms King said the Library encouraged the community to learn coding and robotics as part of its Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) program.

“STEM-related learning is now considered a priority to support the digital and economic success of our community,” she said.

As part of the Science Week program, Coding Kids, an organisation committed to promoting and supporting digital literacy in schools, will also deliver workshops at Sunshine Beach State High School.

“The workshops are for students, as well as educators and parent/carers to help them equip their children with these new, fundamental digital skills,” Ms King said.

Noosa Library Service is grateful to receive funding to deliver this Science Week program and the program is proudly supported by an Advance Queensland Engaging Science Grant.
