Many hands planted 520 plants on National Tree Day

64 volunteers worked hard to plant 520 native shrubs and ground covers on Sunday.

Noosa Council’s Community Partnerships Officer Kylie Gordon said “We had a great turn-out for this National Tree Day event at Weyba Creek.

“Local community volunteers as well as the Weyba Creek Bushcare group, Cooroy Scouts and other experienced Bushcare volunteers all chipped in for two solid hours of planting.

“All these new plants will help to stabilise the creek bank, discourage weeds and encourage biodiversity.

“Everyone really enjoyed the work and the morning tea afterwards. It is very satisfying and you end up with a visible difference as a result of the group effort.

“The kids also enjoyed being part of a bigger event that has resulted in more than 22 million trees being planted since its launch by Planet Ark launched in 1996.”
