Black Mountain Road landslip fix almost complete
Work on a $600,000 project to stabilise a landslip-prone section of Black Mountain Road is almost complete.
Council’s work crews have reinforced the slope, near Eungella Drive, with more than 2000 cubic metres of rock.
The road itself has also been moved three to four metres out from the hillside.
Black Mountain Road will be closed to traffic between property numbers 365 and 413 from 9.30am to 1.30pm on Thursday, July 27, due to the construction work.
Council Project Officer Cameron Shields said larger culverts, installed beneath the new road, would allow rain from severe weather events to drain away quickly.
“We’ve built a large catch drain to intercept debris before it reaches the roadway,” he said.
“The work we’ve done will make this road much less vulnerable to road closures during intense rain events.”
Council kept the cost to ratepayers down by sourcing the rock needed for the project from Council’s own Ringtail Creek Quarry.
Council expects work to be completed by late July 2017.
“Council appreciates motorists’ patience while the work is finished.”
