CoderDojo coding and programming club arrives in Cooroy

Noosa Library Service’s popular CoderDojo program is expanding, with classes now offered at both Noosaville and Cooroy Libraries.

CoderDojo is a free programming club for young people aged 7 to 17.

It teaches them how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, and games. Members meet likeminded people, and learn from each other. 

“One young participant made a home alarm system for his bedroom door, complete with key card access,” says Young People’s Librarian, Maureen O’Shea. “Yes, his parents are awesome!”

Ms O’Shea said Noosaville Library classes had long been popular, and interest in the new Cooroy classes was high.

Term three started on July 15 and classes will continue through to September 9, every Saturday morning. 

“Show and tell days involve spectacular games, presentations, electronics and of course lots of noise, laughs and fun,” Ms O’Shea said.

The club is hosted by volunteer mentors who guide participants, while helping them to help each other.
