Have Your Say on priorities for the Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan
Council is preparing a Draft Coastal Hazards Adaptation Plan (CHAP) and is inviting residents to come along to have their say at an informal information session and workshop.
The session is open to the whole community. It will be held on Saturday 5 August between 9.30 am and 11 am at the Noosa Leisure Centre.
Grant Hinner, Council’s Project Coordinator for Climate Change Adaptation said, “Over time we expect to see more erosion of our beaches and foreshores and more flooding from stormtides due to climate change. It is important as a community that we are prepared for these climate-related changes and take steps to adapt.
“It is important that everyone has an opportunity to contribute. We are very interested to hear which locations and assets the community values and sees as priorities and this information will help us begin to develop the plan.
“We are working to develop recommendations for future decades, up to 2100, that will help Noosa Shire adapt and become more resilient to climate change affecting our coastal areas.
Council is currently reviewing technical studies, analysing results of a community survey and meeting with key stakeholders to inform the plan’s development.
Development of the CHAP is being funded through a $490,000 grant under the Queensland Department of Environment & Heritage Protection’s QCoast2100 initiative, which is being administered by the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ).
The CHAP will form the core of Noosa’s broader Climate Change Adaptation Plan.
