Council to host second screening of A Plastic Ocean
A Plastic Ocean – a documentary about the toll plastic waste is having on our oceans – proved so popular when screened at The J earlier this month Council is set to screen it again.
The Majestic Theatre at Pomona will host the event and a post-screening panel discussion on July 25.
Waste Education Officer Emma Menzies said already more than 100 people had booked to attend the Pomona event.
“The number of people wanting to see the documentary just goes to show how deeply concerned the community is about the impact of plastic waste on our oceans and waterways,” she said.
The discussion panel will again include Toby Hutcheon from Boomerang Alliance, Mandy Botterell from EnviroCom and Queensland Waste Educators Group, and Aaron Horsey from Surfrider Foundation.
“Annually around 500 billion plastic bags are used worldwide. More than one million bags are used every minute. Each plastic bag has an average working life of 15 minutes,” Ms Menzies said.
A Plastic Ocean follows a team of international scientists and researchers as they travel the world investigating the fragile state of the oceans. More than eight million tonnes of plastic end up in the ocean each year.
The first screening, held at The J on July 11, was so popular there were no empty seats.
Bookings for the screening of A Plastic Ocean, at The Majestic Theatre, are essential.
It will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, July 25. Book online. For more information on the documentary, visit the film's website.
