Gallery launches youth art competition with recycling focus
Calling budding young artists! Enter Noosa Council’s Youth ArtCycle competition for a chance to win an iPad or cash prize.
The Youth ArtCycle competition challenges local young people to get creative with reused and recycled materials.
Original works of art, sculpture, assemblage and jewellery or functional fashion accessories are eligible.
The Youth ArtCycle competition, inspired by Council’s Towards Zero Waste initiative, is open to school-aged students living in Noosa Shire.
Part of the 2017 Floating Land Festival program, the competition includes three age categories – 6-9 years; 10-13 years and 14-17 years.
First prize in each category is an iPad Mini, with second prize of $200 cash, and a $50 cash third prize.
“While a fun and challenging competition, Youth ArtCycle carries a serious message about the importance of reducing, reusing, recycling, and even repurposing items to conserve resources for future generations,” says Noosa Council Project Officer Emma Menzies.
Noosa Regional Gallery Exhibitions Officer Nicole Maggs said a judging panel would select up to 30 finalists, with the winner to be announced on September 16.
The finalists’ pieces will be included in an exhibition at the Gallery from September 8 to October 15. There will also be a people’s choice competition.
Entries are now open, and will close 5pm, August 6, 2017. Entries must be made from reused and or recycled materials.
To enter, simply send a photograph of the entry to the Gallery via email along with the entry form [100KB], available either from the Gallery, or via the website.
“I’m looking forward to seeing how creative our young local artists can be with recycled materials,” Ms Maggs said.
