Active Mums Noosa awarded Queensland's best
Noosa Council’s Active Mums Noosa program has been named ‘Program of the Year’ by Parks and Leisure Australia at its Queensland State Conference held in Mackay recently.
Noosa Council Community Development Officer, Amanda Tie said: “Winning this state award is fantastic but I can truly say that the most rewarding aspect of Active Mums is watching how a trial to help mums get fit, has grown into a large, ongoing program that is a win, win, win for everyone.
“Mums, the community and local businesses all benefit. Mums become fitter and more confident during the program. Many then continue on to join fitness programs provided by local businesses, benefitting the businesses, while the community benefits overall,” she said.
The Queensland Government provided $10,050 to Noosa Council to deliver Active Mums Noosa to help get women and girls active for life.
Noosa Council contributed an additional $5000 to the grant to help deliver a suite of physical activities to encourage recent mums and pregnant women to get active and stay active, and it partnered with local businesses to deliver the program.
The Active Mums program targets women with children under 5 years of age and provides a series of free, core-foundation classes to help re-establish core muscle function after childbirth. After completing the core-foundation classes, Mums can choose from wide range of low-cost fitness classes for a period of one year. After that period ends, mums can then transfer to full-rate memberships.
Amanda added: “We are looking forward to continuing to grow the program, creating fitter, more confident women and building on the many great partnerships we have forged with local suppliers of fitness activities and programs.”
