Council and Red Cross promote disaster-ready message

Noosa Council has teamed up with Red Cross to boost Noosa’s resilience to disasters.

Council and Red Cross will attend several community events to distribute RediPlan, a free disaster readiness guide to help residents prepare for emergencies.

Noosa Mayor and Chair of Noosa Local Disaster Management Group, Tony Wellington, says it’s important all residents are prepared for natural disasters.

“Thankfully, Tropical Cyclone Debbie had a relatively minimal impact on Noosa, particularly when compared to communities to the north and south. However it was a salient reminder that Noosa is vulnerable to cyclones and other disaster events,” he said.

Noosa Council and Red Cross will be attending three local community events to distribute RediPlan:

  • Celebrating Safe Families, 6 May, Noosaville Lions Park.
  • Cooroy Fusion Festival, 13 May, Mill Place, Cooroy.
  • Noosa Come Together Festival, 11 June, Noosa Yacht & Rowing Club.

“Preparedness is the key to personal safety. Residents need to take some responsibility for the safety of themselves and their property, and RediPlan provides useful guidelines to follow. Council's aim is to help build a safe and resilient community,” the Mayor said.
