Council calls for interest in new beach permits

Council is calling for expressions of interest from businesses that are keen to operate on, and adjacent to, Main Beach.

Council will award 10 Commercial High Use Permits for a range of specific commercial activities on public land.

These currently include learn-to-surf lessons, beach equipment hire, kayak hire and tours, surf dancing, kite surfing, ice cream sales, massage and water taxi services.

Council’s Property Manager Clint Irwin said the new permits would commence 1 July 2017, for a three-year term.

“Allowing some commercial activity at the beach adds to the experience for both locals and visitors, but it’s important we strike a balance between commercial activity and the community’s right to access and enjoy public space,” Mr Irwin said.

Expression of Interest documents, as well as details about submission requirements, will be available via Tenders, from the Quick Links menu on Council’s website, from 9am 7 April 2017.
