Noosa’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is standing by ready to respond to forecast heavy rain and strong winds, expected to hit the Sunshine Coast region tomorrow.

“We’ll monitor the situation overnight and keep in regular contact with the Bureau of Meteorology, our colleagues in Gympie and Sunshine Coast councils and emergency services,” says Local Disaster Coordinator Alan ‘Fox’ Rogers.

“If required, we will then open our Disaster Coordination Centre tomorrow, to ensure a quick and efficient response should we experience flash flooding.

“We would ask all members of the community not to travel unnecessarily if the predicted heavy rain starts to fall on Thursday, and under no circumstances enter flood waters – if it’s flooded, forget it,” Mr Rogers said.

“The best thing residents can do before the rain starts, is to clear their gutters and secure outdoor furniture, as well as anything else that could blow away.

Throughout Thursday Council will provide updates via its Facebook page.
