Program answers Council's call for better coverage
Mayor Tony Wellington has welcomed the inclusion of Boreen Point and Cootharaba in the latest round of Mobile Black Spot Program funding.
Cr Wellington said he was pleased to see the Australian Government answer Council’s calls for better coverage in the hinterland.
“As well as a lifeline in times of emergency, the coverage these towers will provide will support rural business and make it easier for locals and visitors to stay connected in and around Boreen Point and Cootharaba,” he said.
The two local areas are among 76 Queensland locations to gain new or upgraded mobile base stations in this round of funding.
It follows Kin Kin’s inclusion last year in the first round of the Mobile Black Spot Program.
The Queensland Government and Australian telcos support the Australian Government program, with Noosa Council also making a cash contribution toward the two new local towers.
Each new base station installed under the program must support a co-location option for other interested mobile operators.
