Environmentally inspired artists feature in Noosa Regional Gallery's end of year exhibition

Back

The Noosa Regional Gallery presents three exhibitions highlighting conservation issues and the delicacy of botanical art for its end of year exhibition from 25 November until 22 January.

‘Wild / flower Women’ presents the works of artist/writer Kathleen MacArthur (1915 – 2001) and poet/environmental activist Judith Wright (1915 – 2000).  The pair dedicated their energies to raising appreciation and awareness for the special qualities of the Queensland environment.

Featuring a selection of Kathleen’s beautiful wildflower paintings and related ephemera, 2016 marks the 101st anniversary of the birth of these women and Noosa Regional Gallery is proud to present their work.

‘Voyages Botanical’ is Melbourne’s Christine Johnson’s homage to the early botanical explorers of Australia. In a mix of science, cartography and her own creative practices, Johnson’s exhibition was inspired by her time as a resident of the State Library of Victoria.

While local artist Beatrice Prost presents her unique blend of paper carving and photography in ‘Watermarks up the Noosa River’.

The local surrounds always heavily inspire Noosa’s established artists, and this exhibition is a celebration of that.

Also featured in the Gallery are beautiful works by the Noosa Paper and Books Group in their artists’ book exhibition ‘Elemental’.

Opening night is Friday 25 November at 6pm. Free event, cash bar. For more details visit www.noosaregionalgallery.com.au.
