Have a say on hall's future on November 26

Diarise the date and come armed with ideas. That’s Council’s message to the Cooroy community ahead of a November 26 public workshop to discuss Cooroy Memorial Hall’s future.

Council’s Acting Community Services Director Kerri Contini today urged all residents with an interest in the hall to come along and have a say.

“Council is keen to hear from a wide range of community members. If you’d like to see the hall restored and reused in some way, let us know. If you’d like Council to consider other options for the site, such as establishing a park or playground on it, then come and share your ideas” she says.

Ms Contini said a community consultation process had helped decide Cooroy Butter Factory’s future, and Council was hoping for a similar success this time.

“We are also interested in hearing from people who might like to play a role in the future of the facility,” Ms Contini said.

“This is about Council working with residents to achieve a positive outcome for the Cooroy community.”

Last month Council took over as trustee of the memorial hall, which has been closed due to safety concerns since November last year.

A recent building inspection showed that the hall needs at least $400,000 worth of work to fix various safety issues. To restore it properly will cost between $800,000 and $1million.

Councillors and Council staff will be on hand at the workshop to discuss residents’ ideas.

The public workshop on Saturday, November 26, will start at 9.30 am. It will be held in the Cooroy State School hall, 59 Elm Street, Cooroy.
