Midnight Oil-inspired fun for the young at Noosa Regional Gallery

Clay sculpting, T-shirt printing and instrument-making are among the fun Midnight Oil-themed activities in the Noosa Regional Gallery September school holiday program.

Gallery Director Nina Shadforth said places were filling fast with some activities already booked out.

“Places are still available for 5-8-year-olds in the African thumb piano-making workshop, as well as the High-Five Handprint workshop – where kids can make their own rock star handprint,” she said.

“We also have places in the badge-making workshop, plus there is an instrument workshop for the older children, 10 years and over.”

The Gallery will host Brisbane sound artist, Mauricio Iregui for two ‘Drawdio’ workshops on Friday, September 30 where youngsters will learn how to build their own electronic musical instrument from a pencil.

“These classes are proving popular so places won’t last long,” Ms Shadforth said.

The September school holiday program’s ‘ready to rock’ theme is inspired by the Making of Midnight Oil exhibition currently at Noosa Regional Gallery.

The Gallery is also taking bookings for its term 4 After School Art Classes, for 7-12-year-olds, commencing October 12.

“During the eight-week term kids will explore a host of techniques, theories, materials and activities. The program concludes with a mini exhibition in the Gallery,” Ms Shadforth said.
