A project to nurture, mentor and showcase young musicians will receive funding in the latest round of RADF (Regional Arts Development Fund) grants.

The Pomona Arts initiative, based at the Majestic Theatre, will link aspiring young musicians with music industry mentors to deliver live gigs.

Noosa’s RADF committee chair Cr Jess Glasgow said Council was pleased to approve just over $30,000 in RADF funding in this round, including $7,000 for the mentoring project at the Majestic.

“This project will help young and aspiring musicians to gain a foothold in the music business while developing their skills in a supportive local environment,” Cr Glasgow said.

“It is one of a range of quality projects this round of RADF grants will support.”

The Wallace House Quilters will receive $1570 to host a two-day workshop on modern quilting techniques and trends.

Noosa Arts Theatre will gain $10,000 to deliver a series of performances in collaboration with Cooran’s Farmhouse Theatre.

Just over $3300 will assist the Cooroy Future Group to deliver “Connected” – a skateboard design workshop series for young adults, with a focus on individual expression and its connection to the larger community.

This round of funding also includes $8210 to help develop the shire’s Arts, Cultural and Heritage Plan.

Premier and Arts Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Queensland Government is providing $2.08 million in 2015-16 for the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a state and local government partnership involving 59 local councils across Queensland.

“The $2.08 million will leverage approximately $1.8 million from local councils, and means an anticipated total of $3.9 million will be available for arts projects across the state,” the Premier said.

“RADF supports around 3000 arts, cultural and heritage projects annually, ranging from local festivals and celebrations, to training, education and employment outcomes for Queensland artists.

“This year will see a revamped RADF program developed in consultation with local councils which opens the way for more arts at a local level with public art commissions, access to touring productions and more training opportunities on offer,” she said.
