Council powering through capital works program

Noosa Council is on track to complete the bulk of its 2015/2016 capital works program by June 30, with spent and committed funds tallying just over $25M.

Planning and Infrastructure Director Martin Drydale said Council was tracking as planned, with major projects well underway or nearing completion.

Mr Drydale said the majority of capital projects would be underway, if not nearing completion, by the end of the third quarter, or early in the fourth quarter of this financial year.

“There may be a small carry-over to next year’s program, which is typical of most councils as it is not generally possible to ensure every project finishes on or before June 30 every year,” he said.

“We will be using the fourth quarter to finalise the current capital works program and prepare resources to ensure we can get going with next year’s program early into the new financial year.”

There were 126 active projects in this year’s works program worth $34.3M, as at the end of March.

The biggest project – the upgrade of Dr Pages Road in the hinterland – is on track for completion in May, weather permitting.

“The $3.1M Munna Point Bridge repair project – another of the major items in this year’s program – is also tracking well and we hope to complete this work by the end of May, weather permitting,” Mr Drydale said.
