April 11 start date for William Street fix
Council contractors will start repairing a riverside section of Noosaville’s William Street, from April 11.
Council’s Infrastructure Planning and Design Manager Nick Wellwood said the contractors would repair subsidence and replace the damaged road and footpath with a new shared zone.
He said insufficient scour protection beneath a private jetty built against the revetment wall contributed to the road’s failure.
“The deteriorating jetty moved during a previous cyclonic event, causing damage to the revetment wall, where the jetty attached. As a result, the road above has subsided,” Mr Wellwood said.
“In addition to the repair work our contractors will install scour protection at the base of the wall, as per the previous approvals.”
Mr Wellwood said Council staff consulted with the key stakeholders and offered to install caissons within the new scour protection so the jetty could be rebuilt in the future.
“Caissons are PVC tubes built into the scour protection to allow the reinstallation of support piers so the jetty can be rebuilt in the future.
“Our main priority with this work is to repair and protect the public infrastructure, ensure public safety and restore the William Street footpath for the public as quickly as possible.”
Contractors will be on site from April 11. Traffic diversions will be in place as required.
Mr Wellwood said Council hoped to complete the project within eight weeks.
