Boost to resourcing levels to deliver important initiatives
Additional reinforcements on the ground will help deliver Council’s major capital works program.
A number of key positions are earmarked for inclusion in the 2019-2020 Council Budget to be handed down on June 28.
Mayor Tony Wellington said the addition of four infrastructure staff is pivotal to ensuring Council can deliver on its capital work commitments.
“With another significant capital program proposed, we need to make sure we have enough staff on the ground to continue to deliver for our community,” the Mayor said.
Council will also establish a River Management Unit, comprising one current staff member and an additional officer to help deliver the outcomes of the upcoming Noosa River Plan.
“The Noosa River is a much loved iconic natural asset of the Shire and we are keen to educate river users and better monitor the river’s health,” he said.
Local Laws is another program set to be bolstered after experiencing a 30 per cent increase in customer requests since 2016. Two additional full-time resources will strengthen animal management and non-compliance issues.
“Complaints about barking, aggressive and wandering dogs have increased significantly in the past few years resulting in dog control becoming one of council’s most resource intensive areas.
“Furthermore, when we adopt the new local laws around public signage that will create even more work for our local laws staff to do.
“These new positions will allow Council to better monitor and manage these issues,” the Mayor said.
Other new resources across Council will ensure it continues to better serve the community and maintain vital services.
