Draft waste Public Benefit Assessment report out for comment
Noosa Council is considering a recommendation to retain the full cost pricing model for its waste business.
State law requires councils to regularly review their business activities to ensure that the business structure best applies the competitive neutrality principle.
Under the competitive neutrality principle, the public sector, when conducting a business activity in competition with the private sector, should not enjoy a net advantage.
“The options assessed as part of the Public Benefit Assessment (PBA) were to continue with full cost pricing or establish a council commercial business unit,” Corporate Services Director Michael Shave said.
“As a result of that process Council, at its Ordinary Meeting on February 11, considered the draft PBA report including the recommendation that the structural reform that would best apply the competitive neutrality principle to the waste business is full cost pricing,” Mr Shave said.
