March start for Active Mums Program

Back

Council’s new Active Mums Program begins in March, offering local mothers the chance to take part in a wide range of low-cost exercise opportunities.

Activities will be free for 10 weeks and include yoga, Pilates, stand-up paddle boarding, box fit, aqua aerobics, group fitness classes, and a walking group.

Noosa Council Development Officer Amanda Tie said registration for activities opens on Thursday, 4 February, and places are limited.

“Council developed Active Mums Noosa in consultation with local mothers to provide activities that mums want to do, at the times and locations most suited to their busy lives,” Ms Tie said.

“The health benefits of regular physical activity are well documented. Research shows women are less likely to take up or continue regular exercise after child birth for a wide range of reasons.

“The benefits of regular exercise include increased energy levels and better mental health and it’s also a great opportunity to get out of the house and meet other mums in a positive environment.”

Active Mums Noosa aims to increase the number of local physical activity opportunities for recent mums. This includes morning classes where children are welcome or crèche is available and an evening box fit class for mums that can’t make morning groups.

Council is working with local professional organisations to deliver the program.

To register, or for more information, see Council’s website.

Ms Tie urged mums interested in taking part to register as soon as possible as places are limited.

The Queensland Government provided $10,050 to Noosa Council to deliver the Active Mums Noosa Program to get women and girls active for life.
