Library stoked to host festival surf film screening

Noosa Library Service is pleased to partner with Noosa Festival of Surfing to present 8 Days of Pure Stoke on the big screen under the stars on 18 February.

The one-hour documentary, co-created by Panga Productions, explores the popular surfing festival’s origins, Sunshine Coast surfing history and Noosa’s recognition as a National Surfing Reserve.

Library Programs and Collections Coordinator Tracey King says the documentary combines fascinating historical footage and material from the festival archives to tell the story of surfing development and surfboard design on the east coast.

“The Noosa Festival of Surfing celebrates its 25th anniversary this year and we are proud to join with Panga Productions, Starry Nights Outdoor Movies and the Noosa Festival of Surfing to present the documentary as a taste of what this year’s festival offers,” she said.

Noosaville Library will also host a mini Festival of Surfing memorabilia exhibition ahead of 25 Years of Pure Stoke – an exhibition showing at Noosa Regional Gallery during the festival.

“In Libraries we love to support local passions, and surfing is definitely a passion many in Noosa share,” Ms King said.

“All are welcome to attend the screening from 7pm on Thursday 18 February in the amphitheatre outside the library. No bookings are required for this. Bring a chair or a rug and settle in for the screening of 8 Days of Pure Stoke.

The documentary will follow a sold-out author-talk event with celebrated surf writer and former festival director Phil Jarratt, who will discuss his recent book A Cup of Tea with God.
