Noosa Regional Gallery is inviting artists to enter works in its new art award – the inaugural Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize.

Noosa art collector John McCrea dedicated the prize to the memory of his late wife, contemporary visual artist, art educator, and collector, Lyn McCrea.

Open to artists working in all mediums, the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize is a national acquisitive award, aimed at promoting excellence in contemporary Australian drawing.

Gallery Director Nina Shadforth says she hopes the entries will highlight the many different drawing techniques and show how the art form has evolved over the years using technology and new media.

John McCrea says he’s very proud to have established the Lyn McCrea Memorial Drawing Prize.

“Lyn was not only a painter, but highly skilled in drawing and it was always her drawings that I liked the most,” he says.

Mr McCrea says he hopes the prize opens up new opportunities for artists, both established and emerging, and helps put drawing, as an art form, in the spotlight.

Noosa Regional Gallery will exhibit short-listed applicants’ work at the Gallery from Friday, 6 May 2016, alongside the 2016 Noosa Art Award finalists’ artworks.

“We’ll announce the inaugural winner at the gala opening on Saturday, 7 May at 4pm. The winner will be awarded a $1000 prize. Renowned Australian artist, Ian Smith will be the inaugural judge,” Ms Shadforth says.

For more information and application forms, visit the Noosa Regional Gallery website.

Entries close midnight, 14 February, 2016; a fortnight later than the original deadline.
