More than $20,000 for the arts in latest RADF grant round

Eight local arts projects have shared in more than $20,000 worth of funding in the latest round of Noosa Council’s Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants.

Beneath the Blue – a creative and educational film project to teach young people about Noosa’s turtles – has won a $5,000 grant.

“The film will feature local youngsters, so as well as being an educational project, the production stage provides an opportunity for a number of young people to get involved in a high quality arts project,” Cr Ingrid Jackson said.

A $3,000 grant will help develop the Story of Noosa National Park.

“This project will bring together local elders, historians, poets and musicians to tell the story of Noosa National Park through spoken word and performance,” Cr Jackson said.

It will be presented at this year’s Floating Land Festival, alongside another production to receive RADF funding – Pam Walpole and Yanni Van Ziyl’s art installation A Plague of Polypods.

“This project is a great example of art being used to convey a serious message, in this case to highlight the profound effect of plastic on all aspects of marine life.

“A $2,500 grant will help to bring award-winning cabaret singer Michaela Burger to Noosa to provide our home grown Noosa Chorale a rare opportunity to perform with an international star. Together, they’ll perform A Migrant’s Son to local crowds at the Noosa Alive festival.”

Cr Jackson said the eight projects would deliver quality art and build Noosa’s cultural capacity.

The Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Noosa Shire Council to support the development of local arts and culture.
